Had some time to kill so i went down to the Des Moines (sp?) pier. When I got there the weather was fair. But it immediately turned to gail force winds and rain. I was drop shotting both herring and squid. I pulled up a small star fish, but did not receive any bits from regular type fish. LOL I also tossed around a jig with a soft plastic. Again no strikes. There was an older man who was dragging one of those things which has many hooks attached to it, along the pier in an effort to pull in anybody's lost lures, etc. He did pull up a fair amount of junk line etc. which brings me to the point of saying there must be a lot of lost lines or something just off the North side of the pier about 30' out. I kept getting completely snagged on to something. Once I did get it back and had somebodies line on it. Two other times I lost my rig completely, and I was fishing with 20lb test. It looks like a nice place for a sunny day. I chose this pier because it is just far enough from Seattle to look a little bit less inhabited by pollution? Nobody else fishing, but then the weather really was BAD.

there is an artificial reef that is easy to get snagged up on all around the front of the pier. i squid there a lot and if you let your jig sink to low, you'll lose it for sure.

Ever since they started doing construction in the water right to the left of the pier the fishing has been horrible. I used to fish that pier almost everyday and would catch fish almost everyday. Since they started the constuction I fished it a few times and got skunked everytime. Crabbing was still good and squiding was good too, but dont bother fishing there.

Hello fellow fisherpersons! I recently moved to Des Moines and I love to visit the marina. I have not fished off the pier yet, but I plan to do so this spring. I don't know what the rules are, but I do not know anybody that fishes personally. I would like in the near future to possibly meet up and spend some time fishing with you. I do not have a boat, but that should not be a limiting factor. I have fly fishing equipment & tube float. I really enjoy Washington Lakes web site and check it out every morning. Until later...tight lines!
