I spent the weekend in Westport for the clam tides, and managed to get some jetty fishing in Sunday from about 10:30-1:30. I was going to go Saturday too, but it was really windy on the beach, after getting a face full of sand I wussed out and hung around in-town. Anyway, fishing was pretty good. I was jigging a 5-inch green curly tailed grub most of the time. After about fifteen minutes I caught an average sized black rockfish. The cast directly after that one I hooked into something BIG. I'm 90% sure it was a big lingcod because it just sat on the bottom and I couldn't move the dang fish with my twelve pound test. Eventually, I'd give it slack, and it'd start to swim around after about a minute, then I'd try to get some line in and it'd dive right back to the bottom. After about ten minutes of this it managed to spit my now somewhat bent hook (that's what I get for using inferior jigheads). I lost something shrimpy a few minutes after that. Then around 11:30 I caught another black rockfish, this one a little bigger than my first. After that the bite stopped; I left at 1:30 about half an hour before slack tide. It was a beautiful weekend, and the rockfish were a lot more forgiving than the salmon have been to me as of late! Speaking of salmon, there is none in the dock area anymore. They've either been caught, moved-on, or spawned because nobody had any information on them and I saw nobody fishing for them. Thus, my curred eggs went to the crabs.
