Launched out of Mukilteo around 6:30 am and headed out to Possession Bar. Trolled there until about 8:30 without a bite. Made my way up to PNP. Trolled there until about 10:30. Released 2 sub-legal kings and 1 flounder. Decided to head over to the Edmonds Ferry Terminal and troll down to Picnic Point. Put my pole in the water at about 11:15 am. Using a green Hotspot flasher and a green glow hoochie dropped down to 115 feet. My fishfinder's screen was completely filled up with bait, top to bottom and all the way across the screen from 20' to 130'. No sooner had I turned the boat to head north than WHAM!! FISH ON!!!! Peeled line non-stop for a good ten seconds or so. Was pulling so hard I had a heck of a time getting the pole out of the holder. Finally got a hold of the rod and slowly tightened the drag. Nothing. Didn't even slow the fish down. I put my thumb on the spool to try to slow it down. Nothing. Fine. Let it run and get tired I figured. . . . About ten minutes of this, I finally got the upper hand and started to reel the king in. Finally got it to the surface and saw that it was a hatchery. He saw me too and away he went. Back down to the bottom. :( Got him back up to the surface and put a net on him. A very nice 34", 18 pound 14 ounce Chinook. Since it was almost completely low tide, I decided to end the day on that note. Another beautiful day on the water and one very nice king salmon.
