I went to Westport for the Friday morning clam dig, and fished on the big jetty at Westhaven State Park the incoming tide from about noon to 1:30, and again from 2:30 to 5. It was an awesome day weather-wise and the fish were very coopertive. I caught (in order of when I landed them) a surf perch, a keeper dungeness crab, a very large black rockfish, a lingcod, and a smaller black rockfish. The large rockfish and lingcod put up epic battles against my 12-pound test on those rocks. The lingcod measured 22.5 inches, just over the new lower minimum size limit (it was dropped from 24 to 22 inches April 1st). I caught the surf perch on a sand shrimp, the crab on a herring, and the lingcod and black rockfish on an artificial lure. I won't get anymore specific than that because it's my secret weapon in saltwater. To reveal it would be to doom the ocean itself!
Also for you poachers in the audience, a game warden was out on the jetty checking everybodys' catches and writing tickets. The biggest one that I heard of while he was there was for $500. The infraction was someone caught a borderline lingcod and didn't divulge that he had a fish in his position when the game warden asked. Ouch!
