Trailer bearings stink. Silvers have not shown up yet! usually they are in by July 1st, but not this year. Also, kings are not really in yet either. Some studs tied into kings 100-150 feet deep, but the numbers don't seem to be there. We'll wait a week or 2 before going back.
I rated this a 2 for Neah Bay. For anywhere else, it was good fishing. We got the usual seabass, copper, China, and yellowtail rockfish, plus a nice cabby and 5 ling. I hooked into a big ling in 65 feet of water-on my lightest rod with 14 lb test-yikes, big mistake. I got him up in 25 minutes, but when we tickled his belly with the net, he headed straight back to the bottom. With a little skill and loads of luck, we netted him after 45 minutes of a bent rod and frayed nerves. She was 40 inches, 20 pounds, and I felt like jelly. Bob, Ray and I were stoked. This was their first time to Neah Bay, and they fully appreciated the beauty of the seascape and the tremendous quantity of fish available. They'll be back, which is good, because Bob's boat is so much better than mine.
