Tom Jacobs and I had a morning of good entertainment. First we drove up to the Mukilteo launch to begin our day, only to find the piers removed from the boat launch! Anyone know when those go back in? So down to Edmonds we went. Launched and hit the water at 07:30. Went a mile and began having engine troubles. Cough cough die. Cough cough run die. So it went for about 5 times until: cough cough cough die, no start. Great. Half way to Possession and the big motor is done. Down goes the trolling motor and we head back to Edmonds. Put our gear in (finally) at 08:30, fished traveling due south with the tide toward the oil tanks. Fished in 150-170 feet of water. Deep pole had a flasher (green) with hoochie (green) and herring strip. Top rod at 75-105 feet with similar set up. At 10:30 Tom's deep rod releases and he brings a blackmouth to the boat. I take a look at it and say "nay, that's not 22 inches". "Are you sure, Tom asks?" So I grab my ruler and lay it next to the fish - wait a minute! That's a 23 inch blackmouth. Into the boat it goes. Narrowest looking chinook I've seen in awhile. But legal is legal. A little later we caught a 12" flounder off the deep rod. Called it a day at 12:30. Today's agenda - back to the marine shop to see how much that chinook is really going to cost!
