Took a buddy out - almost always the pattern is I catch one fish, he gets skunked. This time I was determined to put him on some fish. Got to Jeff Head before 8, and saw and marked TONS of bait. Herring everywhere on the surface, and bait balls everywhere below.
Trolling 45-70 feet deep with a green spatterback flasher (the metal one) and a green glow coho killer about 36" behind, I got hit after hit. Kept a couple of 3-4 pound resident silvers, and caught a 20+ pound and about a 15 pound king. I was sure sorry to have to release those two slabs, but it was fun to catch them. We had just seen a seal behind us when the first one hit, and the way he was peeling off line, I was sure I had the seal hooked. The second was tail dancing and fighting on the surface, and had me convinced I had a big sea-run coho until he was in the net. Bummer.
I did get my buddy his first salmon since we have fished together. I felt good seeing how happy he was to have the skunk off him. All in all a good day, with limits for both. It woulda been nice to get bigger fish, but oh well...
