I received some great news from my new neighbor across the alley. Three days ago he and his son said they were going to go squid fishing that night. This caught my attention since we own Juicy Jigs (TM) Tackle Company. I love talking squid fishing and helping people get started catching squid. Neither he nor his son had ever squid fished before. He said his brother caught a large squid in AU a few years back. He showed me the jig his brother used and it is the prawn shaped squid jig from Asia. I have these type of squid jigs but have never seen anyone use them in the Pacific NW. His son looked about 10 and I didn't want him to be disappointed. They only had one jig, not a Juicy Jig (TM), and the local stores were about to close. I flipped him 6 or 8 jigs and gave him some starting points. I referred him to www.juicyjigs.com for rigging info. They seemed pretty excited about the whole evening ahead.

The next morning his brother told me they caught a bunch of squid. Come to find out, they got about 40 squid that night. That's pretty good for your first time. I know I did not catch 40 squid my first night. He said the squid were very thick and everyone was catching squid. First he set up his son's rod. Before he could even get his rod ready, his son caught a squid. If it was only that easy! They had a really fun time.

The location of this squidding grounds is Brownsville. They were at the docks out there. By the way he described the amount of squid, I would say they would be most everywhere.

I usually don't squid fish this time of year because of all the steelhead and salt options. I'm usually squidding when it is cold, windy, and raining. Maybe I need to rethink that.
