Took advantage of the weather forecast to get one shot at blackmouth this season. Launched out of Shilshole to have the planned North wind at my back coming home. Blasted towards Pt No Pt but hit some rough water and stopped to fish Apple Cove Pt for a pass or two. Got a shaker there, then the water calmed and I resumed my trek.
Fished primarily West of the main hole at Point No Point. Used a Hot Spot and a fire tail Coyote spoon. Saw lots of bait on the bottom, but not many shakers or hits. Fished my way into Skunk Bay towards a Salmon University boat, which picked up and left about when I got there. About fifteen minutes later a bite came on and I heard 3 or 4 guys on the radio report fish in the box. I got a hit about 11:30 in 115 feet of water. Kept the boat in gear to thwart the nearby seal, and got a nice 8 pound clipped hen in the boat.
Flat, fast water and sunshine for the trip back. Only the freezing cold reminded me it was November. Hope things are good when it re-opens in Area 10 for the holidays.
