We drove down at 2:30 AM for a day of salmon fishing with Deep Sea Charters on the Tequila II with Captain Don and deckhand Terry. My 14 year old was one of the many teenagers who got sick going out over the bar at high tide. We went about 10 miles straight west from the harbor. We used the typical mooching outfits with plug cut herring but had a different technique for enticing the fish. Stripped out 35 pulls fast, then reeled like crazy. This seemed to draw fish to the boat and made for several multiple hook ups. Apparently, all of those fast moving baits simulated a bait fish school. Unfortunately, too many kids were sick and we only had about ten of us actually cranking, the rest were chumming. Also had a lot of problems with 5 foot blue sharks getting our baits. One fellow had a Chinook approaching 28-30 pounds that ran a good 150 yards from the boat as we drifted. He reeled it back only to have the shark bite off the last half of the king at the boat. Ended up almost limiting with silvers and 20-30 pound Chinook. Terry knew how to release the wild fish, so I tipped him well. Good outfit, I'd recommend them. My son braved the dry heaves and caught a fish even.
