We went up just to check the ice conditions and found them so good we stayed an hour to fish and test out the new-used Frabill Trekker 2 that I picked up this week from a fellow forum member, while we still have ice to drag it across.
There is between 12-14" of nice solid ice still on the lake. It must have gotten above freezing for a day or two last week before this latest cold snap, all the salad that was on the surface last week is now trapped in one to two inches of fresh solid surface ice. That combined with the fresh snow on the ice today, made it almost impossible to find last weeks fishing holes.
It was pretty slow fishing today, we fished for about an hour and caught several Perch, a sunfish and a pretty large bass. My girls walked around and checked with other anglers nearby, everyone had caught a couple fish, but no one was slaying them in large numbers.
I'm not sure how many more days mom nature will give us, but the kids and I will be out there again tomorrow.
