I just wanted to be on the water, it was just too nice out and I managed the day off so away I went. That being said, I did fish, swear I had one bite but no fish so who knows? Early season jitters could be to blame as well? Geese were active, ducks were spooking out of the reeds, the eagle was making his rounds, it was beautiful out!

Water temp was 37* when I launched and 39* when I left. Felt good to be out in the sunshine. The lake I wanted to hit was still iced over so I just decided to stay local. Threw a couple jigs, a worm, jerkbait and a swim jig, fished from 25' to 5' and boy did it almost feel like Spring!

I wish I could go to sleep and wake up in mid-March. :D

Was your first choice Terrell? I have been itching to get out on the water and was going to make the run up to Terrell. The North part of the state got hit pretty hard with the snow and freezing rain recently and that lake is so shallow it wouldn't surprise me if it is still frozen as well as some of the smaller ponds up that way. Thanks for the report anyway...

Yes sir! It was up to 8 inches thick at one point, then it broke up but refroze with last weeks storm. Watch the weather up there and pay attention to the wind more than the temps as the current ice is fairly thin and some wind and rain should clear it out. I'm hoping to make a run up there this weekend or next? I love this time of year when the water is high and you can really poke around the shallows and memorize the available cover to fish later.

Well, while you guys are battling the ice I migrated to AZ for some Spring Training games and warmer water! I hit a couple of the Urban Ponds today to see if I could interest a bass in a swimbait, but no luck. Pretty windy today with a front moving through. No boat, so I'll just be prowling around the various shorelines to see what I can produce. If anything exciting happens I'll let you know!

Guys when's the earliest you have caught largemouth bass on west side of the state? I got some in March out of Sunday lake in early 90's but was one or two on spinnerbait and the only bites.

Dutchman: Good luck down there. I only ever caught little fish near shore in the "Winter" in AZ. Found more fish on main lake points.

James: March 9th for me but then again I usually don't get excited to really start bassin' until March 1st and then it's all about moon phases for me. I'm just antsy cause of the new boat and all the new fishing equipment I upgraded over the off-season! I also don't drop shot in the Winter but I know guys do and have success, mainly for smallies. I just like to get out, get the juices flowing, get gear dialed in, the body limbered up and be ready when the bite really heats up in March and April.

Hey B8, would you be willing to explain to me what you are talking about with the moon phases? I have heard of this, but don't really know anything about it.
