After reading the Winter Trout article from Jason Brooks this morning, I got in the car to try Offutt Lake especially because I saw that it had a nice dock to fish off of.

Had the place to myself and did my usual thing which is casting Kastmaster lures. Just like when I went to Tanwax I had no expectations of catching anything since this local seems to be a big PowerBait fishery like Tanwax is from the docks.

I tried my main sizes and colors and only had one quick "pull" that was it! Having gone all this way and not catch anything I was anxious to see if the fish in the lake matched the pictures that I saw online, which all good sized fat Bows so I threw out a slip sinker with 2 Pink PowerBait Eggs with a White one that was sitting in the dock with about a 3 foot leader.

Not even 3 seconds after I semi tighten my line to have that belly look, I had a nice Bow onwhi h proceeded to come off as I was about to get the hook out. Guessing 16-18" and about 2lbs. I was glad that he did not swallow my bait as I would prefer to catch and release my fish. I had about 15 more minutes left before I had to leave and started to rain. A few cast yielded nothing
but I was not patience after those cast to much. One last cast and I bellied the line and waited. This time about 2 minutes and I noticed a nibble. This time it was a super fat football sized 16" 2.2 lbs Bow that unfortunately swallowed the hook.

I must say, if plunking is your gig, having two fish on in about 20-25 minutes is not bad based on what I have experienced so far this winter. I wished the Kastmaster would have worked better like it did at Tanwax.

Based on what I saw on the docks and benches, it seeems that Pink/White swirl Power Eggs and Orange and Lime Glitter PowerBait were being used.
