Ran up to Sprague Lake yesterday to test a new color-scheme for the 2.8" and 3.9" OG1 lure. (These lures have a narrow strip of fluorescent pink or fluorescent orange running the length of the exterior. The remainder is translucent or clear.)

Our tests were successful and we managed to catch seven trout: one Lahontan cutthroat and six rainbow. The sizes ranged from apx. 13 inches for the cutt to 18 inches for the biggest bow.

Initially we trolled with one-ounce of lead on two rods and a single split shot on a third. Towards the end of the day, the fish seemed to be closer to the surface; so, we replaced the one-ounce trolling weights with 1/2 ounce weights.

On one rod, we added a gang-troll above the OG1 lure. The other rods were fished with just a weight and the lure. The fish were spread evenly between the rods. (So, the gang-troll didn't seem to add any significant benefit.)

In terms of trolling speed, I'm fairly low tech (no GPS in the boat I use for testing). That said, we've caught fish at various throttle settings. And, I've seen similar from folks who have tested the lures--everything from 1.7mph to over 2.3mph.(One of the things I've noticed when trolling from our drift boat is that often, it's when I change speeds that a fish will hit. My sense is that they're following the lures, and, for whatever reason, the transition in speed triggers a strike.)

Donn: Thanks. That really helps. Gives me a good ball park as to where I need to begin at. I'll let you know what works for me. I do have a GPS to tell me my speed. I will be sure to try varying it also.
