Well I spent the morning with the family out on Deep Lake and caught our limit of Kokanee. For some reason we lost about half of what we caught, but I am still learning the tricks of the trade and this is only my second time to try Kokanee fishing. I am using Kokanee rods with very soft tips and being gentle when reeling them in so not to tear out the mouth. I think next time I will use a treble hook on the trailing end to see if I can keep them on the line.
We were trolling at 40-50 FOW at 1.4-1.8 mph. It seemed that the Kokanee were hitting everything we threw at them, but they seemed to prefer the corn with Graybill’s Kokanee scent. Fishing was a little bit slower for us and took us 3 hours to get our limit. Most of the fish kept were in the 12” range.
Side note, I have a lot of Kokanee egg sacks that I am curing, has anybody tried this or used them for fishing bait? I figure there the same as Sockeye eggs and are the perfect size portions for fishing Kings or maybe Steelhead.
