Yesterday was once again a tough day for the wife and I. It was 8 years ago yesterday that we lost our son AJ. We spent the day fishing Cda Lake, then visiting the lake where we spread his ashes and remembering lots of good times. A goal for me was to use AJ's fishing rod and put as many fish in the boat with it as I could. I only got 2 of the 5 pike I landed on his rod, but it was a good day on the water. All fish were in 10 feet of water and on the outer edge of the weed beds. One fish came on a spoon and the others on spinner baits. Water temps in the main lake were 68-73 throughout the day. No monsters on this trip but I'm still finding some decent sized fish with top three going 29-30 and 31".
The weight on the big fish of the day was kind of special. It was the last fish of the day, caught on AJ's rod, 8 years to the day from when he passed away, and it weighed 8lb 8 ozs. :)
I gave this day a 5 rating because I actually got 5 pike, but I missed 10-12 others. The fish were there. I guess I just gotta get em in the boat.
If you're looking for crappies, you may want to give Killarney Lake a try. "Technically" I caught the one in the photo on a spoon. However, it was floating and barely moving on the surface. I reached out with the spoon and hooked it in the mouth. I told the wife, "Stop reading that book and look at this big crappie I just caught". She insisted I admit it was nearly dead and did not actually strike the lure. It was 16" and weighed 2lb 8 ozs. Real nice crappie. They are in there to be caught if you like crappie fishing. I used to catch them in there a lot, but haven't spent much time targeting them lately. I tried to revive the fish but was unsuccessful.
