Fished Friday and Saturday at Baker for our first time. Got on the water by 5:00 am and started fishing the Noisy Creek area. Started with typical gear and no luck...just a few nets out all morning, but passed a boat with three in the box. As the sun got higher the boats thinned out and we went back to Shannon Creek to pick up the family and try a little longer. Started chasing small pods of fish we were marking, and at 11:00 am when most had given up we hooked into an 8 lb'r. Guess we'll take that for our first day.
Out again on Saturday with that area in the GPS...saw a few more fish being caught and we managed two more by 8:00...a little smaller but also fresher fish. Got the families again after they woke up and hit Noisy Creek, but it was dead...headed South and joined a small fleet trolling an area (Horseshoe Cove?). Seemed slow too, but after about 45 minutes, my buddy hooked into a nice 7 lb fish. So two days, and 4 fish for our first trip to Baker. Guess we did ok. Fish were all caught between 50 and 65 feet on the DR. Homemade Sockeye fly with a #3 chrome Colorado blade caught all the fish along with some brined prawns.
