Had some free time this evening, so I decided to see how Lake Alice was fishing. Grabbed 2 of my kids (ages 5 and 6) and was on the lake by about 6:30. They've only been fishing a handful of times, and have never yet caught anything. Threw the anchor and got everybody settled in, and hooked up almost immediately with a nice little rainbow. Fished another 30 minutes and one of the kids got a bite, but she didn't get the hook set so just lost her bait.
Another half hour or so goes by, and I get a nice bite and set the hook. Hand it over to my daughter to reel it in, and she pulls out another nice little rainbow trout. We get it in the boat, but then it flops off the line, hits me in the hands and slides right through and bounces off the side of the boat into the water. Still fun for her though, grinning ear to ear.
Another 30-45 or so, kids are getting tired and wanting to head home (it's about 8-8:15 or so now) so I cast out again and hand her the rod while I start putting away gear. She starts reeling it in, and says "Dad, I think I might have a fish.." so I tell her to set the hook. She does, and starts reeling in. "Actually Dad, I think it's just weeds again" she says.
Now I can see the tip of her rod bouncing and I'm pretty sure she's got a fish on. So I tell her to keep reeling it in and let's take a look. Sure enough, she reels in another nice little trout, this one all on her own!
We had a great time, caught total of 3 fish, took 2 home so they can try their first-caught trout tomorrow.
