Got to Ward lake early and was happy to be the 3rd boat on the lake. Started trolling from the boat launch heading northwest and almost immediately had a takedown on an orange wedding ring tipped with corn behind a 50/50 Luhr Jensen Dodger. Was taken by surprise as my daughter got the fish to the boat and discovered it was a small largemouth bass. Quickly released the fish after a photo for proof and reset the lure bam... another fish. This time a rainbow put the fish in the cooler and reset the rod bam... another largemouth bass. This all happened within 10 minutes. I looked at my wife and said "great day so far". We released the bass and reset the pole did I mention this is all on the orange wedding ring? Bam... this time a kokanee. Then things slowed down and we hooked a rainbow on the long line which was a red/green wedding ring behind a set of 50/50 lake trolls. Kept that fish. Bam... orange wedding ring another rainbow for the cooler. Bam... kokanee on the orange wedding ring. Bam... rainbow on the orange wedding ring. Obviously orange was the ticket. Funny thing is last time at the lake not a single fish would hit it and a pink hoochie was the way to go. Crazy how that works. Ended up losing 1 koke and 2 rainbows at the boat and about 4 other fish (probably kokanee) on a long distance release. After 3 hours we packed up and headed home. An excellent day of fishing.
