At the launch again by 7am. Fishing by 7:30. Beautiful morning. Surface water temp was already near 70. Best spot today was the cove just south (left) of the launch. I think this was partially due the to massive numbers of pleasure craft on the water today. Oh what I would give for a nice overcast day .... I got my first 4, along with losing 2, fairly quickly, even with a lot of pleasure boats out. The last fish took some work. The boat traffic became insane. I head very loud Led Zepplin today, some loud rap, and some loud country. Problem was they were all being played at the same time.

My standard gear, Mack's 4 in dodger, 12 - 14 inch leader to a green Doc Spratley fly. I went all size 8 fly's today (I need to order more, the past few weeks all my size 6's have been munched. Downrigger I started at 15 feet, and wound up in the end at 20. I landed one on the downrigger, and lost 3 on it. On the other line I started with 1/4 ounce, but after no bites for a hour on it, I changed it to a 3/4 ounce, and that did the trick. Next 4 fish landed came on it.

Just before I landed my last fish, I passed over 2 large marks on the sonar at 20 feet, right where the downrigger was set, 10 - 15 seconds later, real hard takedown. Got the fish right to the net, and it popped off. This was a real pig of a rainbow. I was bummed.

Speed today was between 1.3 - 1.6. Fish sizes ranged from 13 1/2 to just a touch over 15 on the largest. The meat on these fish is incredible. All the fish over 15 I've got, if I didn't know any better were Kokanee if I was just looking at the meat. All of the 13+ fish are still a nice deep shade of orange. No pale meat fish. Some of the females are sporting tiny egg skeins.
