We were surprised at how low Big Twin was. About 6 feet or more. We launched at the big easy to drive down ramp. After sliding our boats over the soft sticky clay we made it to the water and started fishing. I went to the left of the the launch area about 150 feet and anchored in 12 feet of water. A black choronamid with a white cone head, on a #14 barbless hook that hung down 11 feet 6 inches was where I slid the tooth-pick into the strike indicator. Just as soon as I took my eyes off the bobber to glance down into my fly box, the cork disappeared. It kept disappearing from location to location.

All of the fish, about 35 or 40 between the 2 of us, were about 12 to 14 inches and fought like 45 pound bone fish. Man, they were great fighters. We reeled in and headed north in the late afternoon.

If you have a depth finder don't bother to use it. The water has a milky color and causes it to give false readings. My anchor rope said 25 feet, my depth finder kept saying 18 or 20.

You could do pretty good fishing from the bank roll casting out about 10 or 12 feet, but be sure to wear your snow shoes to keep you from sinking down in the clay.
