I wanted to work on some light tackle trolling technique for those acrobatic Wapato Lake 'Bows so invited Pepe' and Al out. We worked the drop off the cattails at the Kamei end of the pond in depths of 20 to 40 feet. The most effective depth was 17' down. Kingfisher Lite 2" spoons were most effective, but we did catch fish on spinners and small Rapala's. Also, working the side opposite the public launch maintaining depth in the 30's with the spoons being pulled in the 20's worked pretty good to. Trolling at 1.5 to 1.8 mph worked the best, but because of wind we got a bit a couple of times with speeds as high as 2.5 mph. Great thing about those Kingfisher's is the wide range of speed that they work at. Our fish were all 12 to 16 inches. These are very chunky / energetic fish. A real light tackle treat. We lost a lot of fish that threw the hook when they jumped. A very nice evening of fishing friends.
