Last trip to Terrell for me for a couple weeks so I was optimistic that the weather last week had a positive impact. The only downside today was that the wind on Sunday seemed to have churned up the water here a bit? That will settle in the next day or two I'm sure but today it was still blowing about 10mph at times so finding cleaner water was difficult. I made adjustments to color and switched my baits to include rattles and Colorado blades where needed.
Water temps were a very enthusiastic 50 to 54* and the sun poked in and out of the clouds until about noon when it turned to straight sun. I opted to motor across and commit to a specific area...no secret by any means. I began working my way into the flipping areas with a spinnerbait and small 4" swimbait alternating those between more open water and reed clumps. I actually had one boil on the swimbait but it was very close to the boat and that may have affected the commitment level of the bass?
The outlet in the corner is completely choked with dead reeds and this was my most productive area today. Here and within 100 yards in both directions. By productive I mean 'active' not that I caught a ton, in fact I only caught two today, both males best I could tell but active in the amount of fish moving into the area! They were not committed to the bank by any means and I bumped more of them in the scattered reed clumps out off shore than I did on the 'shoreline' reeds. The two I caught came on a green pumpkin Zoom Z-Hog on a Trokar flippin' hook and a 1oz tungsten weight pegged. Both takes were more like trout bites than hits or "taps" but that should change as this weeks weather warms them up!
In fact, I would think this coming weekend on this lake will be potentially epic! With this weather coming and a slight downturn next Saturday it is setting up to go off! I encountered at least 15 bass today, even though they would boil and move away most of the time, they are there and rest assured more are moving up daily! Unfortunately for me the timing is terrible as I start extra shifts next week and my days off will be sporadic and fewer than normal, if I fish I will have to stay local. If that wasn't the case I would be up this Saturday at 4am to be sure I got on this lake!.....I just got a feeling ;)
