THIS IS A REPORT FROM A FEW WEEKENDS: i live close, so i am lucky enough to fish the lake a lot. i need to post more! here are the last two trips:
For the time of year, fishing has been great on Sammamish!!! i didn't get to go this week because of weather (small boat, big waves!), so i thought i would finally get to my reports which i have been meaning to do of so long.
Day 1:
i went out at the very end of january with a man from the WDFW, to maybe shoot an informative video about the lake Sammamish Cutthroat trout fishery. it was our second time out together (last one was not in our favor...almost a year ago) and it went great!!! we had so much action, we didn't get enough film!!!
we fished a 4/0 dodger with a 2' leader to a home made wedding ring/smile blade thing 120 feet behind the boat. fished for about 4hours, got 7 in the boat, and 5 missed. wanted to find some schooling perch, but couldn't find any on the sonar, so we called it a day early and cooked some great fish on the pan and in the smoker!
Day 2:
went out with a buddy on 2/7 for a few hours with a buddy of mine to test out my NEW BOAT! fish weren't quite as active, took a couple moves to find the feeding fish. took a while to figure out the boat, (trolling speed...etc). fished a walleye rig with a smile blade 24" behind a sling blade on one rod, and a wedding ring 6" behind a dick nite dodger on the other. missed 3 in a row on the sling blade rig before getting one in the boat. during this time, not a single bite on the dick nite during this time, so i switched to a red wedding ring 48" behind a ford fender. picked one up right away and then had to head in.
we were out for around 3.5 hours and went 2/6. (terrible catch rate, but hey, it was the first time in a new boat and we still got 6 hits!)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
all in all, the fishing has been great for end of January - february so far!! normally my trips are much slower this time of year. did all my fishing between 1.3 and 1.7mph and didn't use my downriggers at all (although other fisherman out were and did well.) all lures were tipped with a nightcrawler, although trophy trout scent from Macks works very well also.
can't wait for that next opportunity to hit the lake again!
tight lines and i hope to see some WashigtonLakes members out on the water soon!
good luck and good fishing!
