So Pepe' convinced Jeff to go hunt for Kokanee in a driving rain by promising him a rack of ribs. For those that don't know, Pepe' makes the magic happen at Blueberry Hills in Manson, one of the top rated eateries in the State. So they went up to Colyar Ledge, dropped some Mack lines down and ran some "up lines" for Kokanee. They got a few of each and then don't you know it, Pepe' got a call of nature that just couldn't be answered with Jeff on the boa.t So... they motored up to Mitchell Creek to check and see if the outhouse was functioning. Luckily it was. Since they were in the area, they ran some lines out and got a nice little King and lost another. It was a great multi-species outing and they got back in before Jeff's fingers could get too numb.

For the Mack's at Colyar look in depths of 180 to 320 and fish within 5 feet of the bottom trolling Jeff Drift rigs at 1.1 mph. Bait those up with a piece of Northern Pikeminnow if you have them.

For the Kokanee use Mack's Lures Wedding Rings baited with Pautzke's Fire Corn. Watch your sonar for suspended schools and keep the rigs working just above them.

Basically, fish Mack gear using the Kokanee technique to get at those fairly rare and beautiful Lake Chelan Chinook.

I've always enjoyed and been impressed with your fishing success, but knowing Pepe' is the one that makes the magic happen at Blueberry Hills.... well, now I am IMPRESSED - I've eaten there!!! :0)

after a terrible experiment with a guided service on Chelan, I would never do it again, not suggest anybody go Chelan with guilded service. What they would do is to hand over the rod after they set the hook, what you do is simply reeling in, just like what my 4-year old kid did when they fish with me. they don't even let you to set the hook.

Hi lidong6. I sure am sorry that you had a bad experience. We typically communicate with our customers and try to tailor their experience to meet their expectations. It is fairly common for us to "pop" the lines clear of the 'rigger with customers that want us to. For customers that want to learn how to manipulate the gear, and pop the lines, we train them and turn them loose. It is reasonably common for Jeff and I to run one side of the boat and hand off "bit" rods to the kids or inexperienced angler and have the experienced customer angler on board run a side on their own.

Guides setting the hook and handing the rods off is the norm, not just on Chelan, specially running downriggers. Its part of the package you are paying for. Rigging, baiting, getting you on the fish, and getting the fish in the boat. I would ask if you commicated with your guide prior your wishes? Ive fished with Darrell and Dads on Chelan twice now, and fully intend on going again. They have been very accomodating in wanting to get me the best experience possible.

If you had an issue why didn't you speak up at the time instead of trash talking guides after the fact? Melanie and I had a great time on Chelan with Joe H. years ago .And just how many reports have you posted since you "joined"? You must like trolling a lot! Bob R

He's posted zero, none, never. So he gets a zero for integrity. Having fished with Anton multiple times, I can assure anyone reading this, popping the rod off of a downrigger that is set at 300 feet deep is hardly an "exciting moment". Let the guide do it so the rod doesn't get broken and you reel the fish in, Like Anton noted, if it's really important to you he and Jeff would be more than happy to show you how and let you do it. Anton and Jeff are the Guides for lake trout on Chelan. They get their clients into a lot of fish. A+++ recommended, not to mention they couldn't be nicer hosts.

On further reflection, I do apologize to lidong6. My saying you lacked integrity was hyperbole and uncalled for.
