Saturday was an outstanding day on the water for pike fishing. I hit the water at about 7:45am with farmer_aa and aesox. The weatherman predicted some rain in the morning but we never saw anything but a very slight drizzle for about 5 minutes, and the wind cooperated very nicely.
Once again the pike were in the get ready for winter feeding mode. We released 45 pike between the three of us. Most were between 24 and 27" with the biggest being this 33"er that weighed just under 9lbs.
Water temps were mid 40's all day and the fish seemed to be in 5-10 feet of water around the usual cabbage. They were biting on frogs, glide baits, big hammers, and the ever popular Savage Gear eel that was masterfully presented by "The King". (That's Arthur/aesox) I think we got a couple on the Xrap as well. Two of us felt like we missed much larger fish on a few diffrent occasions when we got bit but never actually saw the fish. They felt much better than most of the fish we caught, but you know how that goes. The longer the day went on the bigger we thought they might have been. Spinnerbaits saw no action but we used them very little. The slower presentations were doing too well to change.
