Well, Sunday was a rare thing; just my dad and I got out on the water chasing some Walleye down at Potholes. It turned out to be the perfect father and son day with cooperative weather and fantastic fishing! It was chilly with some cloud cover and a light breeze to start the morning, later flattening out with some sun breaks. It could not have been better weather for early November! It is still amazing to me the fishing continues to be so good down here this far into the fall, what a great surprise!

Now on to the fishing! We focused our efforts to the mouth of Crab Creek and the face of the dunes back toward the State Park. The water level has been coming up 1-2 feet per week for the last 3 weeks since most irrigation is shut off. The water temperature was 53-54 degrees, with a couple of feet visibility; the green is definitely going away and the lake is starting to clear up. We fished in 15 to 30 feet of water and trolled .9 to 1.2 mph with 2oz & 3oz bottom bouncers and Slow Death rigs. We used various beads and Smile Blades in front of the Slow Death hooks but Orange, Chartreuse and White Glo seemed to be the best color combinations together with the UV Glo Burst Smile Blades. We had an absolutely fantastic day, releasing 3 big Walleye over 22" at 23", 25", and 27". We also took home 2 limits of 16" to 22" eaters, along with catching and releasing a dozen smalleyes and ten or so brown bullhead catfish. No bass or Perch, which was a change from recent trips. All in all, a perfect day on the water with my dad and some red hot fishing!
