Well we got super early and headed to Baker for another try. We left the house at 2:30 am and arrived at 5am. Parking lot was full but another fisherman pointed the way to other spots I did not know about. Headed towards the fleet at the upper end of the lake, we had just installed a new to us SS prop and it was a major improvement over aluminum. We quickly got our gear set and started trolling the middle of the lake. Most of the fleet were on the west side of the lake this time out. My rod started dancing on the third pass and I told my son its yours....fish on. His face lit up with a huge smile as it started taking line. Its been a four of five years since hooking into a nice salmon. I told him take his time its a nice one. After a few minutes and a couple of nice runs a nice sockeye in the net!!

Reset the gear and started making passes again up and down the middle for the most part. I have had more luck on the east side of the lake so that is where we stayed. About an hour or so later his pole starts dancing and then stops. I told him fish on he says nope.....I said are you sure?? He says drive by, I see his pole is not bouncing with the thump of the flasher I told him reel up a little line so he does and the fish pulls back fish on baby!!! He grabs the rod pulls it from the release and he says its gone? We reel it up and check your bait, then head shakes he is all smiles when we see a nice 20" sockeye on the end of his line in the net she goes. Good looking fish but I think this fish has seen a prop an nice size cut in her tail area. My son says that why she did not fight hurting to much? I said maybe.

Well we had a few more drive by's and I manged to catch two kokanee we stayed all day and left at 4:30 pm. and headed home, arrived at 745 pm lots of traffic.

All in all a great trip my son got to catch his first Baker lake sockeye he is all smiles except the bee sting he got taking his afternoon nap on the boat floor. I hope we can make one more trip before the season is over and stay a few days.

The larger fish was caught on a pink hotchiee set up I made from a few lures. The other fish came on a orange and gold from Toni wanna fish a lure. He would not let me use one this trip!! As last time I got all the fish on mine poles. We were running 35-65 ft on the wire stacked two rods each downrigger running silver and green dodgers very short leaders.
