It is actually pretty amazing at the number of walleye that are in Banks Lake this year. Limits have been the norm on all of my trips.
The crankbait bite has been fast and furious for the first couple of hours in the morning. Jointed Rapala Shad Raps in size 7 have been crushing the walleye. Red Crawdad has been the key color. Speed has been 2.0-2.5 mph.
Once the crankbait bite slows, I have been switching over to bottom bouncers and Mack's Lure Smile Blades with Slow Death Hooks. Colors on the Smile Blades have been gold, chartreuse, orange, and purple.
The lake is full of schools of perch fry that go about 1 inch in size. The walleye have been gorging themselves on these perch fry.
Because of the abundance of bait, I'm seeing the walleye grow week to week. We are now seeing a lot of walleye in the 16-17 inch range, where as before it was very tough to find fish this size. Have also been getting some very nice 19-25 inch walleye to go along with the 16-17 inchers.
Give me a call or shoot me an email if you are interested in a trip on Banks Lake.
