Had a fantastic (if not crispy) outing on Banks this last Saturday. Drove under a heck of a storm on the way to the lake. Lightning, major wind and rain.
Had planned to stay at the Steamboat Park camping area but after arriving and setting up camp it was decided the Mosquito problem was just too much. They were out in force, and having planned to sleep under the start in the open I had to abandon that problem and seek other lodging options in Electric City, 10 miles away. Thanks Dez!
Mike Carey, Rob Holman and I hit the lake around 6am with guide Jordan Osborn of Upper Columbia Guide Service. We launched from the Northrup Pt. facilities and headed to the north end of Steamboat Rock. We marked a ton of large walleye at various depths, but proceeded to pull in a ton of sub-legal ones.
We relocated to the south end of Steamboat Rock and had similar results for a few hours until I managed to hook up with a monster! He came to the boat without too much fuss. 28" and 7/8lbs of fish later, I'm sitting in fish fry heaven!
We fished some spots further south in the lake, and ended the day at the north end, but had no more legal sized hookups the rest of the day. Water temps started off at 64 but were up to 72 by 3pm! The air temps were similar, starting in the upper 40s and ending in the lower 90s. There was no specific magic lure color for the day, but we were using Mack's Smile blades and slow death worm hooks with success all day long.
