Fished Cda Lake yesterday for the first time this year. We were targeting pike but ended with a mixed bag of pike and bass. All fish were caught in roughly 7 or 8 feet of water along shorelines that had new growth weedbeds. The weed beds seem to be coming along nicely this year. We got follows from pike on spinnerbaits and chatterbaits but they would not fully commit to these baits for us. All our fish were caught on jerk baits. Husky jerks or x raps. We finished the day with one 4 lb small mouth bass, one large mouth, and two small pike. Largest pike was about a 25-26"er. The smallie was a nice fat fish and had great color as you can see in the photo.
Water temps were 48 in the main lake rising to 53 by about 4pm. Chain lake temps were 57-58 degrees. The two chain lakes we fished were quite murky.
The main lake is low for this time of year apparently due to the lack of snow pack and runoff. It will be interesting to see where the water levels go from this point on. There are a lot of locations I would like to fish this time of year if the water gets up to somewhat normal levels.
Weather was great but we did see a lot of bass boats on the water. My guess is there was some kind of tourney going on.
