I finally arrived around noon. The sky was cloudy but bright with occasional sun. Temp near 58. I was experimenting with a float tube, which I have never used before, and finally was able to get offshore and out about 100 yards from the boat ramp. I cast our a dry fly and while fussing with the tube, managed to hook a steelhead. Shortly later whill still fussing with the tube and dragging the fly, hooked another. Around 3:30 fish were jumping on all sides and a quick cast would net another steelhead. Most of my flies were taken in the top few inches of water. All the fish were between 12 and 15 inches, all super skinny. I could put my fingers around their girth and their skin was more like sandpaper than slick. I don't know if their apparent hunger was the cause of this or not.
I left around 4:30 after landing 7-8 steelhead and losing several more. Never saw the sought after trout.
Beautiful lake (my first trip there) and a great day fishing. I will be back, with a better set of fins.
