Got out early and caught a couple 16-18" in Walleye between Lind Coulee and Medicare Beach. Took a short break and came back to fishing around noon to find the bite seemed to pick up. Wife and I landed another 6 fish using slow death with a few beads over the next couple hours. The added smile blade seemed to slow down the action so we stuck to the plain hook or added a couple beads. We had lots of bites and many small fish. If only I was patient as my wife in hooking the soft mouthed fish we would have had several more for the table. 35 to 50 FOW, 1.0 mph and a very soft tipped rod. Use just 3/4ths of the worm

I lost confidence in spinners and concluded they were good for catching small fish or nothing at all.

Does anyone know of flow gauges on Crab Creek around the Potholes or out of O Sullivan Dam? Is there a water level gauge on Potholes Reservoir that is perhaps on a BOR Website?

And finally when do Walleye Spawn in the Potholes? Is it by water temperature, Calendar or some of both? I am guessing mid April?

two questions- do you know the water temp? and are you married to a black lab?

Gotta love that puppy. Seems like everything is a couple of weeks ahead because of the weather. That would probably include the spawn (40 - 45 degree water if I read the literature correctly). Canceled my Potholes trip since the docks weren't in. Sounds as if you had a good time. I may change my tactics and use the slow death hook with beads, as you did. I rigged one up but just didn't use it - give it a shot next week. Thanks for the notes.

I would like to know about the water level too. The walleye spawn is around the first of April or with the full moon through mid-April. Maybe sooner this year with weather but I think the day length and the moon have an influence too.

When fishing the water temperature was 41 F at the surface. I bet the deeper water temperature is 38-40 F. I understand Walleye spawn in areas where there is good water flow, out on gravel points. Where is this habitat on the potholes? Lind Coulee? Perhaps the mouth of Crab Creek? or Frenchman Wasteway? So do the walleye move from deep and dispersed areas of the lake into shallower water near areas where there is influent water to the lake? Or do they pick a shoreline just anywhere to spawn?
