On a bit of a spur of the moment decison friend Tom and I took the Tin-Guppy and headed for Rock Lake for our first visit. As reported by others the launch was interesting but actually pretty decent at the current water level. Didn't get on the water until after 2 and due to the whole spur of the moment thing I managed to leave the Lowrance HD-7 at home which given the reputation of the lake made for a cautious boater. Boater was a better description than fisherman this time for sure. Didn't really have a clue what the approach was so we trolled "various" behind a flasher and the trip would have been a skunk except for a smaller rainbow I caught spin casting and Panther Martin into the shallow. Beautiful day to be out on the water and at least gained some familiarity with a new spot.
Any pointers on how catch these big browns I hear about would be greatfully accepted.
And so it goes.

i've had luck on the browns there on the south end of the lake, long lining with the biggest suspending rapala i can find. 6". they work even on the small browns. for rainbows an orange apex on leadcore line. 2 1/2 colors out with 30 yd leader. and shoepeg corn if needed. or a downrigger at 15-20ft. depending on what the hummingbird says...

You can look up tomconant's posts to see threads on Rock and safety questions that were answered there. Also there is a thread in the forum from him on Rock. - Alan

Thanks to all for the feedback.
Had one apex out around 21/2 but didn't bring any bait either. Had a small rapela deeper, really don't think there was much of a bite at the time, just too nice out. The whole trip was more of "lets go for a drive and we might as well take the boat" sort of a thing.
The water clarity was pretty decent I guess, probably in the 4 to 6 range. Never saw bottom much other than near the launch and other that not running a prop into the bottom didn't pay much attention.
