Fished Fernan Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 1:30 Saturday and 11:00 to 3:30 Sunday. I fished the second turnout 150 yards from shore both days in 21.2 to 21.5 FOW. Ice was a solid 5 inches measured. Fishing was pretty slow on Saturday as I was using Swedish pimples tipped with worms. I met a nice fisherman from Smelterville Saturday which made it very enjoyable despite the slow catching. He had better luck fishing 5 poles with Swedish pimples and eyes. He iced 8-10 perch and a few rainbows. I fished 4 poles and had 1 nice 12 inch rainbow. On Sunday catching was better. I caught one perch and switched to eyes and caught 15 more and 2 rainbows. Kept 10 perch from 8-10 inches 9 females. I fished 3 poles in my Sportsman's Eskimo green shanty as the snow was coming down hard. I was hoping to use my underwater camera but action was steady. When the school moved through around noon I had a triple and it was a blast. I had a great fish fry Monday night with potato pancakes and rye bread ( just like the days growing up in Wisconsin). Two others shanty's on the ice Sunday. Stopped but the red shanty fishing near me as they were packing up and they had 9 trout and 5 perch also using Swedish pimples. I heard of great perch fishing on the ice in Moses Lake this past weekend right off the bridge at I-90 producing buckets full of nice size perch.

Glad to hear there is some Ice in Northern Idaho. As soon as duck season comes to a close the end of this month hopefully I'll see you out on the Ice! I hunted Moses/potholes earlier this year and was hoping to go chase some jumbos and those elusive walleyes through the ice in the Pacific Northwest. I've been out here 5 years now and still the only time I can get a chance to get eyes through the Ice is when I go back to WI during the holidays. I will admit though that the fishing out of a boat for them blows back home out of the water.

Depends what part of WI you used to fish. The crab creek system has been hit or miss for me unless you can hit potholes during the spawn, then it's really good. Banks is pretty good too later in the year, but I always end up trying to get waldos there around August which is always a tough proposition. Although every year I end up with a couple fish over 24". If this warm weather keeps up, I might just go over to banks and try and get walleye from the boat instead! Thanks for the report Packernut, for some reason I think i've read it before somewhere else ;) . Thanks for the reminder about rye bread and potato pancakes though, it's been awhile. Gonna have to whip some up next fish fry.
