Well I think I made my last pike trip of the year yesterday. I headed out to Cda with farmer_aa and aesox to see if the pike would still bite after the recent cold weather. I got skunked for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and didn't want to end such a good year on a sour note.
We managed to get about 10 bites between the three of us but only landed 2 fish. One 29"er and one 31"er was it for the day. The fish were very heaalthy looking and fattening up.
The weeds are still in good shape but the fish seem to be pretty scattered. Either that or we were just not doing a good job of getting them to bite. All of our bites came on soft plastic frogs or Big Hammer swimbaits. Water temps were still at 40 degrees most locations and the fish were in about 6-8 feet of water. Slow presentations should still put some fish in the boat till things cool down even more. It's been agreat 2014 season for pike for me, I hate to see it end, but I'll be back at em in the spring.
Merry Christmas to everyone!!
