I am submitting this report late, but thought it was a unique experience and I had some photos worth sharing.
They have dropped the lake level 50 feet to work on the inlet. My brother reported to me that fish were jumping everywhere, so I thought it would be a worthwhile venture. We fished Tapps last year on my birthday and caught a nice birthday bass, but we are targeting the illusive Tiger Muskie. OK, a bass is a welcome catch too. The first task was getting my 12' aluminum boat down to the lake. Gravity would help with that direction, but the return trip was expected to be much tougher... We navigated a safe, but steep route, lifted the boat off the trailer and slid down to the water's edge. Easy peasy. I rigged up three casting rods and two backups with plug, jig with worm, spoon, hoochie, dick nite, wedding ring. It was a beautiful, sunny day, but the wind was a problem and kept pushing us to shore! After several attempts, I gave up casting and went to trolling up the middle of the lake. Water depth was 12-25'. Wind gusts were less up the lake. Interesting sites, such as a truck that had driven into the lake at some time within the recent year. There were pilings from an old mill and for docks that existed long ago at a time when the water level was different. Snags on the bottom were insignificant, and easily unhooked due to the sandy, silt floor. No fish. Maybe a bite or two or snags. Still a worthwhile family adventure. Oh yah. To get the boat out, we removed and carried up all the heavy items first, then slid the boat up the bank full speed until our destination was reached.
My brother and his son still claim that fish are jumping. Apparently this is in the morning.
