Trying out some new waters today. Met friend Pete at Bitter Lake at 7:00 AM, lines in the water at 7:20. Cloudy day, temp at the outset was 48 degrees, water temp at the shoreline was 58 degrees. Using Power Eggs and 4' leaders... color didn't seem to matter. Began catching fish right away... Pete limited by 8:30, me about ten minutes later. Pete had a double on, snagged one of the lines on the bottom and lost the fish... reeled in the other line and "lo and behold", the fish from the first line had become entangled in the second line and he was able to land both. All fish in the 11" to 13" range, mostly 12". These fish have the more conventional "trout look" than the Steelhead we have caught at Green Lake. I am no fish biologist, but I believe that they are triploid trout... my understanding is that the triploids have fully developed testes but are not viable (see pic). The only drawback is that limiting early meant the end of the day. Sat for a while and watched other fishermen, Robert ("Two pole Bob"... a long story), Tim and Igor catch fish while I smoked a bowl of my favorite pipe tobacco. Left the lake at 10:00. PTL!
