Due to the reports the past few weeks, my buddy and I decided to make the 2 hour trek to the potholes last Saturday for the first time. We typically target eyes on Roosevelt and the Snake, so we took what we knew, and gave it a go....not too be disappointed. We started the day trolling the north bank towards the dunes and picked up perch immediately; beautiful jumbos. We thought we'd hooked into a couple of monster eyes, only to discover they were 5-6 lb. largemouth. We had a discussion with an older gentlemen who was very nice and told us to fish the dunes 8-25 ft. for eyes. We took his advice and soon found plenty of eye action in the very area he pointed out. Throughout the day we caught 6 different species; perch, largemouth, walleye, catfish, crappie, and trout. I pretty sure we could have found a lingcod or halibut if we had just a few more hours :) We started the day off with 2 dozen worms and after 2 hrs, found ourselves headed back to Mardon's for another 4 dozen. The total for the day was over 100 fish, took home our limit of walleye and perch, and released the rest. Our last worm of the day yielded an 8 lb. walleye to top it all off. Ironically, a gentlemen in an adjacent boat told us we should have been there 2 weeks ago.....said the fishing was ridiculously good. Wished we could have been there :)
