The plan was to have a friendly fish-off between several members. Unfortunately, weather was a little wacky. I wasn't even sure if I was going to fish until that morning. Heard rain overnight and when I looked out the window in the morning, it was still wet, but wasn't raining. Hmmm, decided to go and see who shows up.
Meet up with SammamishYak and AMX at the launch. We waited and chit chat for about 30 more mins , then started fishing.
A bit windy out on the lake. SY and I in my boat. AMX blew past us like we were standing still, lol.
We started off shallow. We were in weedy area. I started off with a spinnerbait. I think SY had a dropshot and went to a senko after a bit.
Noticed a deep spot where we saw some markings, so we backed out into deeper water and worked the DS for a bit. No fish on. A few nibbles, but most likely perch.
We go back across the lake to the other side and I start working a swimbait and DS. SY with the DS, a football jig and maybe a senko.
Found some perch in relatively shallow water, ~10-12'. Memory is a little fuzzy now since it was the other day and I didn't take pictures as we were fishing and wasn't able to write my report until now.
But I'm pretty sure I caught our first bass at that spot with the swimbait that was about 12". Didn't set a length limit, but to us, it's a keeper, LOL.
We moved farther up the lake to another point with rocks. SY and I caught several dinks SMB. Fun catching something after started off very slow. We caught a couple undersized SMB that we tossed into the livewell because well, dinks are better than nothing, LOL.
Moved farther up the lake and stopped off at a weed edge. Nothing. I showed SY my farthole and we hit it for several minutes with no lube.
We're running out of time, I want to say about 1 hr or so. We boated back across the lake and wow it's a bit choppy. Got a bit wet from the waves splashing us. I continued working the swimbait and SY mixing it up. I get a solid strike on the swimbait at boat side. SY nets it and we're stoked. Looked like a 15-16" chunk. Didn't measure and dumped it into the livewell but guessed 1.75-2lb range.
About 30 mins left and I wanted to stop off at a deep hole I found. As we're heading to it, I thought there was time to stop off at a point really quick. I tossed my DS out into ~20' of water and waited for it to get to the bottom. A few seconds later, I just feel weight and set the hook. SY was like, seriously, already? LOL. Gotta love those first cast fish. Another 15-16" close to 2lbs.
We had to fish fast. I think we stayed for about maybe 10 mins and then we went to the deep hole. Fished the deep hole for maybe 5 mins and had to head back for weigh-in. Too bad, saw a couple of markings that I'm sure we could have caught if we could work it a bit more thorough.
Met up with AMX halfway up the lake. And the winner is.... SY and I. AMX does win for variety of fish, he had a LMB. But SY and I took home biggest bag and biggest fish. Biggest fish had a confirmed 2.49lb. The only one we took a pic of. The first SMB I was trying to weight shook the weight hook off and fell into the water, lol. It was right at about 2lbs though.
Fun outing with the guys. Hope to do it again some day. Hopefully in better conditions. That wind was a bit gusty at times.
Can someone tell me if these Bass in Lk Washington, Sammamish, Union, Green LK, safe to consume. According to regs, you can keep'em but, i was told by a couple of fisherman that some bass contain some kind of PCB or other crap. Any feedback be great, i wanting to try some smallmouth or largemouth bass fish & chips.
Had a great time out on the water! Thanks again to AMX and Fishingfool for the invite. Looking forward to syncing up again with you guys next season. AMX, shoot me an a PM so we can swap emails.
Sorry i didn't make it guys. I wrote off the morning cause of the 90% chance of rain etc... Then when Sat. morning came, I didn't think about the fact that the weather was looking better, so I slept in (needed it!) Sound like you guy did alright. We'll try again in the spring. Maybe after the barbless hook thing is over???
Oh, well I could be wrong about this but arn't Kokonee just lake locked Salmon? Thanks for the heads up, but why are you guys talking about "after the barbless hook thing", if it is in such a long time from now?
Should work out. Remember, and in April we can start discussing it again. But everyone has to remember, 6 or more people regardless of value of any 'winnings' requires a permit, so nothing but bragging rights. :-)
If you guys wouldn't mind, I'd love to tag along next time you guys go out, I don't know bass fishing as well as I would like to and could really use some pointers first hand.
I'm basically done for the season. I just need a dry day when I'm off to winterize before the freezing temps show up. In Spring, i'll be game. I still have to return AMX's scale, lol.
Aw that is unfortunate. However if anyone is interested to go out, I can take 1 other on my boat. P.M. me if anyone is interested!
