After failing to catch any salmon in the morning, I got some errands done then hit Magnusson Park oh ... I'd say 3:30 or 4pm. I drug drop shot nightcrawlers around out in deeper water for a while, but since my garbage excuse for a depth finder wasn't working AGAIN, I coudn't see if there were any fish down there. No bites. So eventually I got a little closer to shore. I tried to sit in around 25 feet of water, cast into 15 feet with my medium sized gold spinner. You know the one that everyone with a tackle box buys first and then never uses? Yeah, that's what I was using. And for the first time ever, I actually caught something by casting a spinner! The first thing was a perch that was barely double the size of the lure. And then a few minutes later, something decent. Probably 12 inches or so. But I was going to just horse it into the raft, and it fell off just below the water line and all I saw was a flash of gold. So it was either a big perch, or a medium sized smallmouth.
Well, time passed and I didn't get any other bites on the lure. So I drug the dropshot nightcrawlers around s'more, and eventually hooked the awesome smallmouth in the pic. 15 inches. I was really pleased.
By the end of the day, the smallmouth, 1 bluegill for some reason, and maybe a half dozen perch. All C&R. Didn't make up for not catching a salmon, but at least it made the day less sucky. Left the lake about dark.
