First time fishing Baker. Hoping to get in on the Sockeye action. Hit the lake at 4:30AM and quickly learned that my desire for sockeye was shared by several hundred other fellow anglers. Man was it packed today. Being my first time there I have no reference for how crazy it can get, but if tomorrow (Saturday) is even worse, then no thank you. :)

Anyway, we worked up and down, over and across—multiple lures, scents, baits etc. Tried depths from 20 to 75 ft at various times. Marked fish off and on, but just couldn't buy a hook-up. Had a couple hit-n-runs. At least I wasn't the only one struggling. I saw very few fish brought in around me.

That all said, it wasn't a total skunk. Landed a decent Dolly (at least I think it was a Dolly). Took a pic and released it without harm. I gave this 2 stars because it wasn't a total fishing bust. Certainly a skunk on the sockeye.

Oh, and I couldn't agree more with the countless other reports regarding the scenery. Amazing.

heads up, dolly varden "should not be totally removed from the water" according to the regulations.

Yes, I was unaware of this until afterwards. I wasn't even sure it was a Dolly. Thought maybe it was a Brook. Now that I know, I will definitely follow the regulation next time I hook one of these beauties. This one was hooked nicely in the lip and took off quickly when returned to the water.

No joke about the crowds. I dread launching the boat in the mornings due to the lack of parking spots. Never been there on a weekend, but I imagine if its a cluster on a weekday, weekends will be 2x worst. Fishing was good for us Thursday in the pouring rain (landed 5), but slow Friday in the blazing sun (landed 2).

scraig1962—was it also pretty crowded on Thursday given the weather? I had debated trying Thursday instead thinking the weather would make for less peer pressure. :)

Nowhere near as bad as Friday, but we were surprised by how many boats were there even though it was non-stop rain. I try to fish away from the main fleet because I cant stand it. Seems like theres always someone crossing in front of you, plus I dont like the stress of constantly watching what the other boats are doing.
