My buddy and I got to the lake at about 4pm. It was sunny and around 80 degrees. No clouds in the sky. We launched out boat and headed to the west end of the lake. There are normally a lot of lily pads here but they are gone this year. The water was tinted brown and had about 6 feet of visibility. We saw ducks eating red crawfish so we started using jigs with a crawfish topper. We fished these in every way we know. Unfortunately we did not have any red jigs; we were forced to use tan, brown, and black jigs. Maybe if we had a red one we would have gotten fish.
After about an hour and a half we switched to trolling for trout. We had three lines out. We used a bronze and silver pop gear with a worm tipped wedding ring, a silver pop gear with a worm and corn tipped wedding ring, and a dodger with worm and corn tipped wedding ring. We trolled in erratic patterns at low speeds in the deepest part of the lake for 2 hours with not a bite.
Around sunset we switched to topwater. My bud threw a frog because we had heard them croaking. I used a perch immigration jerk bait. Nothing.
We got skunked. It was still fun though. A good excuse to get on the water.
Maybe it was the full moon last night. Sometimes the fish just don't bite.
