First trip to Gissberg Ponds (aka Twin Lakes) for me and my 12 year old son. We arrived at 3:00PM On this Beautiful 72 degree day. From the parking lot we hit the juvenile only north pond. There's so many spots to cast from in this pond it's crazy so we had no problems hunkering down in a really nice location.

The little fuzzy caterpillars were out in full force...wearing brown shorts and a green tee shirt I must have looked like a great tree to climb, and climb on me they did. :) Must have taken 20 of those little buggers off in the two hours we were there. They're cute and harmless so no bigs! The sun was hot but we had shade under the alders...very comfortable time. Next time we'll bring chairs for even more of a comfortable time since it's so close to the parking area.

For weights I set him up with a sliding bullet sinker held at maybe 3 feet from the hook with a very small reusable split shot. The split shot is nice because you can easily move it if you want more space between hook and bullet sinker.

My son loaded up his size 10 (or maybe 8?) hook with two green power eggs and tipped that with a very small power bait white maggot. The power bait maggots were ancient and almost dried out and I told him they probably wouldn't help. But man was I wrong. He had 9 trout on and landed 6 in the meager 1.5 hours we had to be there. They ranged from (guessing) 9 to 11 inches. Was so awesome to see the excitement as he cranked those babies in! We had a fantastic afternoon at these awesome little well stocked ponds.

Way to get the kid some action. The kid only pond does not get hit that much. Some good size bass in there as well.

Glad you and your son had a great time at Gissberg. These are nice little ponds and it's nice that they have the North pond restricted to kids only. Congrats to your son on getting it done!
