After getting skunked on opening day, I was eager to return to Williams Lake for vengeance or dignity. A buddy and I each took one of our daughters with us. We hit the water on a rental motor boat at 6:30 a.m. It was in the 50s and breezy. It warmed up to the low 70s by noon. We trolled for the first several hours with good results. The wedding ring, something like a black wooly bugger that I bought at the bait shop and a black rooster tail netted good results. One of us used lead core line with the wedding ring; the others used spinning gear and simply added weights to bring the spinners/flies down to a good depth We headed down the south edge of the lake, slowing down especially at the hallowed tree #11 and twin pines, where small crowds of boats were gathered in rapt expectation of lunkers lurking in the depths just waiting to be served the right morsel. After lunch, we headed back to tree #11 to still fish on the bottom with red mallows being the favored bait. I also tried white Power Bait to no avail. All in all a great fun day. In total we kept about 10 fish, having thrown back 4 or 5 little guys. We thank God for his provision and for fantastic weather. We will definitely be back.
