Derby Day! Well I didnt get much sleep the night before and I was making sure I had everything I was going to need. I gave my daughter the option to sleep longer and meet me later but she chose to get up with me. I was up at 140 after hitting snooze and out of the house by 2 with my fishing buddy sleeping in the car. In the water between 215 and 230 so I laid my seat down so my daughter good sleep more and I motored out into the dark to get my gear set up. Plus traffic was getting busy and I didnt want to be in the way. I got my gear in the water just before you could see and then when it got light fish started to bite We ended up with 11 Kokanee and one trout and this years trout was .91 for the winner ours came close. We caught fish and had a fun time doing it I had her using a lami kokanee rod witch is a little heavy for her. I was running bells on the down rigger rods(picked up idea for steelheadn360) Her rod started to jingle and she said she had it. She pulled it from the rod holder and popped it loose from the down rigger and brought the fish to the boat nice and slow. I saw the nice size and kicked the motor into neutral to be on the safe side. I slid the net under the fish and started to scoop as the hook came unpinned and flew by my face I barely got the fish in the net and also had that flying hook snag me in the back. Thank god for that heavy fleece jacket. got gear back in tow and tolled her the fish was big. We had to measure it and it was just over 15 inches and yes bigger than my 14 incher and everyone who was there got to know too. We had 2 doubles maybe a triple but not sure and out of one of the doubles I got hers but lost mine. She asked my why I did that and I got the third degree for what I must have done wrong. She turns 6 in june and what a fun age. Im very proud of her and cant wait to do it again. Thanks for this site and the friends I have made being a member and for sharing your knowledge to make this day possible.
