Put the canoe in Kellog looking to catch a trout and/or bass. Last time I was here was 12 or 13 years ago, so really nice to see it again. Just as pretty as I remember it. Fished from 2pm to 7pm, saw no one else on the water the whole time.

Went up the NE end first. Water is incredibly clear, I could see fish scattering as I moved through. Trolled around a little bit with no luck, then decided to drift and cast. Worked spinners, spoons, jigs and rapalas with only a couple hits and not sticking anything. Fish were rising steadily, lots of bugs on the water, so there wasn't much interest in any of my stuff. A competent fly fisher (not me) probably could have done well.

Paddled out to the main part of the lake. Caught and released 2 small cutthroat trolling a small trout rapala. Decided to try for some bass using plastics, jigs, power grubs and small cranks. No luck except for a 14" cutthroat (pictured) on a pink worm I usually use for steelhead.

Paddling out I saw a lot of activity on the surface in the shallow area near the access. Started fishing rapala on the surface and had non stop action for large mouth. Unfortunately none was bigger than 6 inches. Saw one big sploosh that looked like a 5 pounder.

Nice day on the lake.

Hey, thx. for this report. Vi absolutely love the beauty of this lake, especially the lower lake. It's like the Atchafalaya basin in Lousianna.
But never the less, the fishing has always been WEAK SAUCE.
