Today I got to fish with “The JigMiester”, David Gerhauser for some crappie action. For those of you that don’t know him, David pours some incredibly life-like soft plastics for jig fishing crappie, walleye, bass, and pan fish. His plastics are unique and very fish-catchy, as I found out.

We started fishing at 6:30am and stopped around 10:30am. Our rigs were ultralight rods, slip bobbers, and Jiggy’s plastics on 1/16 oz jigs. We started on the north pond, south end, and first cast David caught a small smallmouth while at the same time a bald eagle flew over our boat. A nice way to start the morning! I really enjoyed the scenery and wildlife of Fiorito Pond. It was my first time fishing here. I’d read so many of your reports so it was cool to finally fish it.

The south shore action was slow so David moved us mid-lake to try deeper water. I caught a nice rainbow but that was it, so we again changed spots and ended up on the northeast corner of the lake. It was here that we found an active group of fish.

For the next two hours it was steady catch and release of black crappie, bluegill, and bass. No great size to any of them but the action was fun and it was good company and light hearted conversation. I couldn’t have asked for a more pleasant and relaxed morning of fishing.

The spot we fished was a wooded shoreline drop-off which the fish were hanging right at the shade’s edge. As the sun got higher and we lost the shade edge the bites dropped off to just some small bluegill, so we called it a morning.

Thanks David for showing me the lake and sharing some of your plastics. If you’d like to check out his gear go to Jiggy’s Facebook page at Jigmiester Custom Lures.
