My 8 yr old grandson, Ethan, said it was time to go fishing so instead of launching the boat for kokanee, which have been kicking my butt, we grabbed a handful of worms from our backyard worm bucket and headed to Jennings Park kids pond. Noticed more people than usual, and lots of trout jumping...it was the day after the kids fishing derby. The day AFTER the kids Derby is a great time to fish Jennings Pond! Lots of rainbows left and no big crowds.
Ethan picked a spot between the dozen or so family groups fishing and I rigged him up with a worm 2' under a bobber. He wanted to catch fish, of course, but couldn't keep from fidgeting with his rod. Finally, when he asked me to help him, I told him to just put the rod down and catch snails. Shortly the bobber went for a sleigh ride and it was game on.
Caught 5, released 4 and headed home with the 15" fish of the day. Great day inspite of a bit of rain and home in time to do stuff with "Mannie" (Gramma).
