The Lester V. Smith Pike Tournament was held this weekend by Fins and Feather Tackle Shop on the south end of Coeur d' Alene Lake and I needed a break from Hayden so off we went. Saturday we made our way up to Mica Bay, then hopped around the larger bays till we ended back up at Harrison. The shallower we got the dirtier the water was and it proved to be a poor game plan as we ended up with an empty boat. I didn't realize how blown out the creeks were feeding the bays till it was too late. The biggest fish turned in that day by an anger was around 15llb, what a great start for whoever weighed that one in. Sunday we went south towards the RR bridge, the water was cleaner and slightly warmer, good things to come i thought. Within the first hour we had a 24" and 23" Pike using the jerk baits. Reeling in slow, jerk-retrieve-jerk-jerk-pause method worked for both fish. Through out the day we landed one more Pike and a toad of a Small Mouth, which tipped the scale at 5.7lb. Over all it was a pretty slow, 2 days of fishing brought us 10.14lbs of Pike however the Small Mouth was a nice bonus and thus I rate it a 3 instead of 2.
